Getting started
1. Install
- Open Inbox.dmg and drag Inbox into Applications.
- Open Inbox. If macOS says it “could not verify” the app, click Done.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down, and click Open Anyway next to Inbox.
- Enter your Mac password and click Open Anyway again. You only need to do this once.
2. Connect your iCloud email
- Enter your iCloud email address in Inbox.
- Click Open Apple Account, sign in, and choose App-Specific Passwords. Click + and name it “Inbox”.
- Copy the password Apple shows you (it looks like abcd-efgh-ijkl-mnop) and paste it into Inbox. It connects right away.
Never use your Apple Account password here. Inbox only accepts app-specific passwords, which you can revoke at any time on account.apple.com.
What Inbox shares
When you connect, Inbox sends your email address, the Inbox version and your macOS version to its developer, who keeps a list of users. It checks in once a day to keep that up to date. Signing out of Inbox removes you from the list.
Your password and the contents of your email are never sent anywhere except between your Mac and iCloud.
